October 13 – Boulder CIMCN Meetup at Inspiring Apps from 5 PM – 7 PM
Inspiring Apps will host CIMCN for out October meeting, which will feature Stacy Griffin, Sr. Project Manger, at InspiringApps. Come and learn about app development and the work of this Boulder-based company. Also speaking at the October meeting is Dr. Revi Sterling, Director of CU-Boulder’s ATLAS Institute’s Master of Science in Information and Communication Technology for Development (MS-ICTD) Revi will talk about the work she does with graduate students and her impressions on how the ICTD space is impacting international development work and offer some ideas and insights for how companies, NGOs, and universities can work more closely together and engage in fruitful partnerships.
November 12th – Denver CIMCN Meet Up at the Posner Center for International Development, from 5 pm to 7 pm in the Classroom.
The November CIMCN meeting will focus on Global Internet Governance and will feature Karen Mulberry, Policy Advisor for the Internet Society (ISOC) and Wafa Ben Hassine, writer, human rights advocate, and law student. Both Karen and Wafa have recently attended the Internet Governance Forum in Turkey. They will share their experience in this multi-stakeholder process and offer their views and observations on why internet governance matters as an international development issue as well as some geo-political considerations on what the future of the Internet may look like in light of policy and regulatory trends.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Paul Voakes, professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at CU-Boulder. Paul is the faculty director of the Digital Media Test Kitchen and recently served as a Fulbright Specialist at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. Paul is very engaged in the Online News Association and a leader in helping to navigate the complicated twists and turns of the digital media landscape.

The featured speaker will be Cathy VonderHaar, Vice President of Business Development for GeoPoll. GeoPoll is a mobile surveying platform revolutionizing the way data is collected. By asking people questions on their mobile phones without the need for data plans or internet access, GeoPoll is able to help customers understand trends, preferences, and conditions in every part of the world, from dense urban areas to remote villages. Cathy will talk about her work with GeoPoll and the innovations and opportunities for research that mobile platforms provide. She will also share with us her experiences working with MGive and how mobile platforms have transformed charitable giving for non-profits/NGOs around the world.
February – Date TBA. Meeting will take place in Boulder at the ATLAS Institute on the CU campus.
Dr. Revi Sterling will lead a panel discussion featuring the work and projects of the Master of Science in Information and Communication Technology for Development students. Come and learn about this unique Master’s program – one of the few in the world that focus on ICT4D – and hear from graduate students about their bridge the scholar to practitioner divide.
